Previously The Great Britain Hotel in Melbourne, the fresh and fun Harlow has stepped into a new generation of impressive design and transformation. Today the space is lifted with floods of luminescing light and that all-impressive and unmistakable retro vibe.
The reinvented pub boasts a ground-floor bar with impeccable detailing. Sweeping and inviting dining areas alongside an abundant split-level beer garden plus a neon-drenched basement bar, allow the Harlow to have it all. But it’s all about the details that set this pub apart from the rest. Bar frames, wall and ceiling cladding, custom furniture and external bleacher style seating.
The tailored bar frames are certainly the focal point of the area and make a grand statement when entering the space. The custom-built stained wood table tops complement the bar area and help tie in the entire feel of the space while adding an element of warmth and comfort, that every pub craves.
Having the cosy essentials, particularly in older buildings, of combining the old meets new – with a pinch of retro style - was important in the overall appeal of the pub. The custom cladding was needed to really help bring the space back to life and tie the whole design together. The custom cladding was also utilised on the ceilings to keep with the flow of the entire space.
The outdoor entertaining areas also received a good dose of much needed attention to bring the two areas together and compliment the overall concept of the pub. It was imperative the spaces worked well together and highlighted each other’s impressive components.
The ceiling cladding elevates the space while creating a sense of height. While offering a feeling of softness and warmth that diverges against the stark white walls and exposed brick throughout the bar. Adding that important element of contrast to the space that is not only visually appealing but also highly functional. Custom-built spotted gum bleacher-style seating gives the outdoors a lift while being incredibly practical.
